We are delighted to announce a major milestone in the evolution of Chavagnes International College. Starting in September 2025, our school will roll out a comprehensive US High School Diploma programme for all pupils. This initiative will complement our existing offerings of IGCSEs, A-levels, and AP options, ensuring that we continue to meet the diverse academic needs of our students while equipping them for success in an increasingly globalized world. Chavagnes is partnering with USA Heritage Academy in this new project.
A Flexible and Rigorous Education
At Chavagnes, our mission has always been to provide a classical Catholic education of the highest standard. By introducing the US High School Diploma, we aim to offer a flexible yet rigorous framework that reflects the best of international education. This model ensures that students acquire a well-rounded education, complete with opportunities to specialize in areas of interest through elective courses.
Incorporating the diploma program alongside IGCSEs and A-levels allows us to blend the traditional strengths of the British system with the adaptability of the American system. Furthermore, Advanced Placement (AP) courses will be available to challenge our older pupils and prepare them for competitive university admissions worldwide.
Preserving Excellence and Tradition
Our new academic structure will retain the core values and traditions that define Chavagnes, such as the study of the liberal arts, mandatory religious education, and a strong focus on languages. French will remain a mandatory core subject, with Spanish available as an elective, ensuring our students achieve proficiency in key languages and are prepared for international certifications such as DELF/DALF and DELE.
Additionally, all students will benefit from our choir and theatre programmes, which will now be recognized as credit-bearing electives. These opportunities foster creativity, discipline, and leadership, essential qualities for young men preparing to take on responsibilities in a changing world.
Bridging Global Pathways
The US High School Diploma program will provide an accessible and inclusive framework, accommodating both native and non-native English speakers. The transition year in Grade 9 (Year 9) will introduce students to the curriculum and help them perfect their English, ensuring they are well-prepared for the challenges of Grades 10 to 12.
For students aiming for further specialization, an optional pre-university year will allow them to pursue A-levels, AP courses, or targeted university preparation, ensuring that all boys leave Chavagnes equipped with qualifications tailored to their aspirations.
Why This Change?
This bold step reflects our commitment to forming young men ready to thrive globally. The US High School Diploma is widely recognized across the world, offering our students access to higher education opportunities in the United States, Europe, and beyond. Combined with IGCSEs and A-levels, our pupils will benefit from a robust and versatile academic profile that opens doors to diverse pathways.
A Continuing Legacy of Catholic Education
At the heart of this initiative is our desire to maintain and grow the Catholic educational tradition that has been the hallmark of Chavagnes for over two decades. With the sanctity of life, the dignity of human persons, and the richness of European culture at the core of our formation, we aim to inspire our boys to become faithful leaders, critical thinkers, and compassionate servants of Christ.
We are excited to embark on this journey and invite you to join us in shaping a future where faith and learning flourish together. Stay tuned for more updates on this transformative development at Chavagnes International College.
