A school can have excellent intentions and still need to think more carefully about what it is doing. These resources are offered to help: the Church’s teaching, Scripture read in context, prayers for the working day, and the example of educators who became saints.

  • Church teaching — Eighteen Vatican documents and papal texts, arranged chronologically.
  • Scripture and education — Two hundred passages, arranged in ten themes, with short reading prompts.
  • Prayers for education — Twelve original prayers for pupils, teachers, parents and school communities.
  • Saints and education — An opening guide to Newman, John Bosco, John Baptist de La Salle and Joseph Calasanz.
  • Professional Resources — A selected practical reading list for teachers, school leaders and governors, with each provider’s context identified.

How to use these resources

Begin with one text and a real question. What does it ask of a teacher? What does it say about parents? What would change in the ordinary life of a school if its teaching were taken seriously? A short, attentive conversation is often more fruitful than a long list of worthy resolutions.

The document guide identifies authors, dates and types of text. Later additions will distinguish Vatican teaching from selected national and diocesan guidance, whose practical provisions have their own geographical scope.
